The Boston Marathon will take place on April 17th, which is also Patriots Day.  The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) is to host thousands of Marathon Day spectators and runners every year as they travel throughout Boston to celebrate Patriots Day and the Boston Marathon. To make traveling around the city easier on race day, there is a special Marathon viewing map with distances to the race course from transit stations.
Patriots Day is a special Massachusetts State holiday commemorating the opening battle of the American Revolutionary War on April 19, 1775.  It is celebrated on the third Monday of April and is celebrated with parades, reenactments and commemorative ceremonies.
